Have you ever seen a peacock that speared its beautiful tail feathers? That is the male peacock! The female peacock are plain brown and do not have beautiful tail feathers.

Peacocks and ducks belong to the birds family. When a female bird lays eggs, she has to stay in the nest and protect her eggs while the male find foods. Therefore, the female has to blend in with the tress and bushes around her, so that bigger animals could not see her and eat eggs.
Usually it is the female bird that chooses her mate. The female bird must have pretty colors to be attractive to the female. Sometimes the female bird must attract the female by making a fancy nest, or doing dances for her.
For some types of birds, where the male has to stay in the nest to protect the eggs, the female has to blend with its surroundings. In the case, the female bird has brighter colors.
For male and female birds that have to blend in with their surroundings. They are often of the same size, too. Usually birds that have to stay in the nest are smaller than those that to attract their mates.
