What is a
plastic surgeon?
Many fields of medicine allow physicians to do cosmetic
surgery. Plastic surgeons, however, follow a unique and rigorous path of study
representing from five to eight years of post graduate training in surgery,
plastic surgery and fellowships for further in-depth knowledge. Traditionally,
plastic surgery has taken on some of the most difficult problems in medicine,
from burn treatment, cleft lip and palate, tissue rafting and microsurgery, to
name a few. It is upon these reconstructive techniques that our unique talents
in aesthetic surgery have been built.
It sometimes happens that patients
refer to us as artists. We are not artists, but rather more like architects.
Unlike the artist who holds full reign over his canvas or stone, the plastic
surgeon is more a craftsman, a body architect, if you will, bound by the laws of
nature and the principles of the ethics of medicine. We try to achieve for each
of our patients a sense of well-being and nourishment of his or her own
self-image.
Critically, it is important that, above all, the plastic
surgeon is a good physician鈥攑aying attention to he whole patient and his or her
physical and psychological needs.
In addition to his work here, Doctor
Berkowitz has traveled extensively throughout Latin America with the Interplast
organization treating children and adults in impoverished areas with difficult
plastic and reconstructive surgery problems.
Doctor Berkowitz is past
chairman of the Division of Plastic Surgery at The Good Samaritan Hospital in
San Jose and is a member of many regional and national medical societies,
including the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American
Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is an associate member of the prestigious
Rhinoplasty Society.

Face
Aesthetic procedures to rejuvinate your
appearance.
The aging process is universal, of course, but the appearance
of aging is not the same for all of us. How we look is affected by heredity,
combined exposure to the elements, diet, stress, smoking and alcohol, to name a
few. Combinations of these affects our skin to varying degrees.
Not all
people are ready to surrender to the ravages of time if the inner self isn鈥檛
ready. Given the choice, most of use would prefer to look as young as we feel.
In most cases, Dr. Berkowitz has the experience and skills to improve your
appearance, rejuvenate your features, refresh your attitude and reveal your
"joie de vivre."
